Adrian Barath hits a hundred against Australia on his debut

We didn’t see Adrian Barath’s hundred against an Australia bowling attack that we feel professionally obliged to describe as ‘rampant’. Was it any good?

Brian Lara though Barath was some prospect when he saw him batting in the nets, aged 11. Being as Barath’s 19 now, he must have been dossing about for his teen years. He could have been in the Test side at 13, but no, he was either writing on the back of Chris’s neck with a biro during maths or wasting the day indoorsSource: King Cricket RSS Feed

Cop: ‘Domestic Issue’ Preceded Woods’ Accident

TMZ reports this afternoon:

Multiple law enforcement sources tell TMZ Tiger Woods‘ early morning accident came right after an argument with his wife, Elin Nordegren.

We’re told Elin told cops about the argument at the scene of the accident and Tiger gave the same story to authorities at the hospital where he was treated.

One Florida law enforcement official called it “a domestic issue.”

Elin apparently was able to forgive and forget — according toSource: SPORTSbyBROOKS RSS Feed

Football Photo Of The Week NOT Involving Thierry Henry

It’s been a nice return to club football this weekend after all 32 countries are now locked in & booked for South Africa next Summer. What a week it was though for memorable moments and unforgettable photos in world football. Long will football fans remember the handball heard ’round the world, the pain and dejection on the Irish players faces and moments of pure passion and joy from other countries who will be playing their part in 2010.

Jim Tracy Wins Award, Gets New Contract

When Jim Tracy took over the Colorado Rockies, anyone who even suggested the team could make the playoffs would have been laughed at. The Rockies were 18-28 and looked like one of the worst teams in the league. But with Tracy at the reins, Colorado went 74-42 to finish the season and make the playoffs in the National League.

As a result, Tracy was awarded the 2009 National League Manager of the Year award. He received 29 first place votes, with Tony La Russa of the St. Louis Cardinals Source: Knuckle Curve RSS Feed

Is Johnny Damon really that bad on defense?

Johnny Damon went through a transition in 2007. He left Spring Training pondering retirement. While nothing came of that, he faced many problems early in the season. By the end of April he was hitting .229/.349/.329, a far cry from his impressive pinstriped debut a year earlier. He then battled calf issues in May, eventually missing a few games at the end of the month, but ultimately missing the disabled list. By June, Joe Torre had seen enough. He installed Melky Cabrera as the everydaySource: River Avenue Blues RSS Feed

Pondering The Next Place Byron Scott Will Wear Out His Welcome

(left to right : formerly employed, currently limping)

A full season and change removed from a 56 win campaign, the New Orleans Hornets had “begun to moonwalk” under recently deposed head coach Byron Scott, argues the Times-Picayune’s John DeShazier.   The New York Post’s Peter Vecsey — a longtime Scott castigator — was far less diplomatic, citing “offensive predictably, stagnation and susceptibility to being bullied”, and worst of all, a recent loss to the Knicks.Source: Can't Stop the Bleeding RSS Feed

Hopefully Berkman is a psychic

It's late and I don't want to make this lengthy but I did want to pass along this interesting tidbit. The Astros are said to be another team looking to cut costs and are also reportedly unhappy with Lance Berkman's performance for what he cost.
If somehow they made him available I think he would be a great addition at 1B, I completed a full post on Berkman and the Houston situation Here.

Brad Miller’s Buzzer-Beater: Was It Off In Time?

Shame shame if you missed tonight’s Bulls-Nuggets game; it featured one of the closest game-ending calls in recent memory - certainly the closest of the young season. Quick recap to set the scene: Nuggets lead throughout the 4th quarter, only to see the Bulls make up a 7-point deficit late and tie the game at 89. Chauncey Billups gets the ball, gets fouled on the last shot by Kirk Hinrich (it was a good call, if not one that always gets called on the last play of the game), and goes to the Source: SPORTSbyBROOKS RSS Feed

Dwight Howard Shows Mary Carey His Magic Wand

Tonight’s bedtime story involves adult film star and former California gubernatorial candidate Mary Carey, the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard, and Chris Kirkpatrick from N*SYNC. One of them takes off their pants, and it isn’t Carey. Also there’s Bible verses.

Oh come on, you weren’t going to sleep tonight anyway.

In an interview with a Sacramento radio station on Tuesday, Carey — who was in town to promote a strip club, natch — told a pretty amazing story aboutSource: SPORTSbyBROOKS RSS Feed

Marlins may look to move some interesting pieces..

The core of this Marlins team has been together since 2006 and while they've put together a winning record in two of the four seasons, they still have not created any substantial attendance numbers. While there is hope with the new stadium, that doesn't financially help the organization now. It doesn't appear that they will have another fire sale, but several players will become available who will be reaching their expensive arbitration years.
Despite being in the same division the MetsSource: Mets Fever RSS Feed
